SMARTBANK, the first cord blood stem cells storage bank in Italy, was set up in 2005.
In 2005, SmartBank opened its premises in Rome, becoming the first Italian company to offer cryogenic storage of umbilical cord stem cells. SmartBank has been directly appointed exclusive Procurement Office for Bio-Vault ltd., the leading European tissue bank. SmartBank is now the only European company certified ISO 9001:2000 for the Procurement activity.
Since its inception, SmartBank has been a leader in the Italian market in stem cell storage.
The first to use a laboratory that offers both for private and public storage.
The laboratory is the largest in England, and the only one authorised to carry out cryogenic storage for the NHS (British National Health Service) in addition to private cryogenic storage.
The laboratory, to which thousands of parents have entrusted the storage of their own children’s stem cells, has a BL3 cleanroom and operates in accordance with GMP procedures (international Good Manufacturing Practice protocol).
The laboratory is located in the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, (http://www.plymouthhospitals.nhs.uk), one of the ten largest hospitals in Europe.
The first to guarantee parents consumer rights, reimbursement and withdrawal rights.
SmartBank applies a transparent reimbursement and withdrawal policy for cases where the collected sample is quantitatively and qualitatively low, or otherwise unsuitable for storage. Smart Bank contract exceeds consumer protection.
The Italian Scientific Director is available to provide any clarification or explanation of critical aspects of the cryogenic storage for clients. It will be the Scientific Director herself who will send a detailed certificate stating the outcome of storage with all relative parameters to parents, once the procedure is completed.
