SmartBank Biocord Founding Partner
On 7 June 2011 BioCord, the Association of Private Banks for the Storage of Cord Blood Stem was established in Italy; SmartBank was one of its founding partners with other major Italian organizations.
The intention is to promote an ethical code of self-regulation and shared rules to offer parents an ever higher quality standard for services combined with correct information based on scientific data, helping them to make an informed choice between donation and private storage.
With some 100 people working for them, the banks belonging to BioCord – which for facilities, investments and know-how are scientific advisers and not just “intermediaries” – have to date stored some 35,000 cord blood stem cell samples. An experience that BioCord intends to tap to set up an effective dialogue also with the institutions involved.
Actually the President in charge of the Association is dr. Irene Martini, SmartBank Scientific Director.
