The driving force and co-founder of SmartBank s.r.l., Irene Martini has three children and was able to preserve the neonatal cells of the youngest.
She is the single Italian member of the Advisory Board of the Parent’s Guide to Cord Blood Foundation , the international point of reference for public donation and private storage of umbilical cord blood.
From 1990 to 2002 she worked as a researcher in the “La Sapienza” University, Department of Cellular Biology and Embryology in Rome.
After her degree in Biology she obtained a PhD in the “La Sapienza” University, Department of Cellular Biology and Embryology at Rome and in Sciences Medicales at the Hopital Necker “Enfants Malades” Paris.
She worked as a post-PhD researcher in the “La Sapienza” University Microbiology Laboratory and in the Virology Laboratory of the Italian National Institute of Health.
Dr Martini has taken part in several European Union and World Health Organisation (WHO) international research projects in collaboration with the Institut Pasteur in Paris, thanks to her expertise in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Microbiology, and Immunology.
She has more than 18 years experience as a researcher, and has written several scientific publications as well as patent documents.
She has been collaborating for over 10 years with the “La Sapienza” University Scientific Research and Innovation Development Offices, managing patents in the Biotechnologies and Pharmaceuticals sector. She has been teaching Scientific Communication for three years for a Master Class in Scientific Journalism and Communication in the same university.
Dr. Irene Martini speaks French and English fluently.
Dr. Martini put at the disposal of parents her continuously updated scientific expertise for specialised advice on pathologies, transplants and the latest medical application of the preserved cells.
